Cool Car of the Day: 1965 Volkswagen Type 2

If there’s a vehicle that still symbolizes the 1960s counterculture movement, it’s the Volkswagen Type 2. The nine-seat, three-door panel van was known by several names, including the VW Bus, VW Camper, VW Delivery Van, VW Kombi, VW Microbus and VW Transporter, but most prominently, it was known as a “hippie van.”

But the Volkswagen Type 2 is much more than just the 60s quintessential “hippie van.” Production on the original Type 2 model began in 1950 and still over 60 years later, it is being manufactured. (Though it appears the last models will be produced by the end of the 2013 calendar year.)

A few Type 2 vans have sold for a tremendous price at auto auctions and the price is only likely to increase due to the end of Type 2 production. You might as well get your hands on a nice-looking Volkswagen Type-2 like this one before the price increases.
