Every day, recycler’s print publication and free online classifieds help connect people. Car buyers meet sellers. Potential pet owners get in touch with rescue organizations or breeders. Job seekers search out new employers.

But no connection has had as big an impact as the ad placed by Lars Ulrich in early 1981:

“Drummer looking for other metal musicians to jam with, Tygers of Pan Tang, Diamond Head and Iron Maiden.”

Guitarist James Hetfield responds to the recycler ad. It is beginning of the iconic metal band Metallica. Thirty years later, Ulrich and Hetfield are still going strong.

They also used recycler again to place an advertisement for a lead guitar player. Dave Mustaine answered that ad, joining the band for a little more than a year before he was replaced by Kirk Hammett in 1983. While Mustaine went on to a successful career founding the band Megadeath, Hammett has been with Metallica ever since.

The recycler publications have also played a key role in uniting other bands throughout the last 30 years, including Motley Crue, Guns N’ Roses and The Bangles.

Will you be recycler’s next great success story?
