Owner Talks About Ricochet the Surfing Dog, Hero Dog Finalist

by recycler on October 11, 2011

Last Saturday, I helped out Star Watch Media on the red carpet of the inaugural American Humane Associate Hero Dog Award Show. Among the dogs being honored on this night was Ricochet, who was honored as the 2011 Hero Dog Award finalist from the “Emerging Hero Dogs” category.

Ricochet began her life training to be a service dog helping people with disabilities, but she had to be dropped from the program when her free spirit led her to chase after birds (potentially dangerous to someone with a disability, if Ricochet were to get distracted while outside).

However, it was the same free spirit that led Ricochet to finding her true calling in life as a SURFice dog, helping people with disabilities in a different way — through surfing. If you haven’t seen Ricochet’s story, check out her story at ricochetsurfingdog.com where you can see the YouTube video that went viral, helping make Ricochet become one of the biggest donation-raising dogs in the world. There are also links to follow Ricochet on Facebook and Twitter.

In the video below, Ricochet’s owner, Judy Fridono, talks about letting Ricochet be herself and how she has been able to do so much more:

We will have one more post with video of NCIS star Pauley Perrette tomorrow. The award show will be televised, in entirety, Friday November 11 on the Hallmark Channel.
